“Prior to automated cutting, building a simple trading ship necessitated around 10 lumberjacks working over 90 days,” writes the author. “With wind-driven sawmills, an identical quantity of cut lumber might be produced in less than seven days.”
Owing to this rapid mechanical cutter, that turned timber into planks using virtually no human effort, Dutch builders were able to construct ships faster compared to anyone else, which unleashed one hundred years of Dutch naval, financial as well as cultural supremacy in the continent and the world.
