Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting extended matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51M viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US average was 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
