Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in 882 Days

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one various competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet defended four early break points in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
